DUE DATES AND LIABILITY"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Any person liable to pay income tax in India may discharge the tax liability in either of the following ways or a combination of both:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>A.<\/strong> <em>Deduction by a third party on behalf of the taxpayer<\/em> &#8211;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Tax Deducted at Source (TDS).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tax Collected at Source (TCS).               OR<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>B.<\/strong> <em>Payment by the taxpayer<\/em> &#8211;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Advance Tax.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Self-Assessment Tax.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The above taxes are collectively known as &#8220;<strong>Prepaid taxes<\/strong>&#8220;, except the <strong>Self-Assessment Tax<\/strong>, which is paid after the end of the tax year while filing the income tax return.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Advance Tax,<\/strong> as the name suggests, is <strong>income tax paid in advance<\/strong> during the tax year in which the income is earned. Normally, income earned during a tax year is reported on the income tax return after the end of that tax year. If any tax remains payable after adjusting the prepaid taxes, it is discharged as <strong>Self-Assessment Tax<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If, after reducing the estimated <strong>prepaid taxes (TDS\/TCS)<\/strong>, the <strong>estimated advance tax liability<\/strong> for the tax year <strong>is \u20b910,000 \/-or more<\/strong>, the taxpayer is required to pay the balance tax as <strong>Advance Tax<\/strong> during the same tax year. It is suitably adjusted for any expected increase or decrease in income during the current tax year. No TDS is expected to be deducted.<br>Is he liable to pay Advance Tax?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Answer:<\/strong> Yes,\u2611\ufe0f, <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Reason: <\/strong>The estimated tax payable is <strong>\u20b920,000\/-<\/strong>, which is <strong>higher than the prescribed threshold of \u20b910,000\/-<\/strong>. Timely payment is important to avoid interest for delay or short payment of the Advance Tax.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The due dates for payment of advance tax are not uniform for all cases, rather it depends on the method of computing income.
